Flying To Armidale This Holiday Season? 5 Things To Keep In Mind

3 mn read

If you’re looking for a place where you can celebrate Christmas like no other, Australia is one of the best places to be. Here, singing “White Christmas” and “Frosty the Snowman” won’t make any sense, since Christmas comes during the summer season. But just like the rest of the world, Christmas in Australia is bright and colorful, with spectacular light installations, shopping opportunities, Christmas carols, gift-giving, and festive meals.

And when you’re in NSW, you may want to check out the lovely city of Armidale. There’s plenty of things to do in Armidale during the holidays other than Christmas shopping and listening to Christmas carols. The city is boasting its booming locally-grown food scene, university culture, cool-climate vineyards, world heritage-listed national parks, and historic homes, churches, galleries, and museums —all of which beg to be discovered.

If you’re planning to fly to Armidale, here are 5 things you should know first.

1. Book refundable flights, hotels, and tours

Okay, so the flights to Armidale, as well as the hotels and tours, are now made cheaper to attract more travelers. The question is, are they refundable? Give yourself some peace of mind and check their cancellation policies.

2. Look at the events calendar

While Christmas 2020 won’t as vibrant as our previous Christmases due to the pandemic, “canceling” this year’s holiday isn’t in Armidale’s vocabulary. The events calendar for December is still packed with fun activities for everyone.

3. Check what’s open and what’s not

The last thing you want to happen is to plan a visit to a major tourist attraction only to find out that they’re closed due to COVID-19, or the entry is restricted.

Before embarking on a holiday trip to Armidale, check whether or not your target destination is accommodating guests. Museums, galleries, and libraries are likely open. Some national parks and camping sites are also open. Pubs, clubs, restaurants, and cafes are open too, but you must observe strict health and safety protocols.

You should also check other COVID-19 restrictions, like the number of guests that are allowed in a particular destination. Gatherings are limited to 20 people at one time in accordance with social distancing guidelines. As for restaurants, bookings may be limited to 10 people per table.

4. Bookings might be required

Due to COVID-18 restrictions, you might be required to make bookings ahead of time before visiting a national park. Tourist destinations avoid overcrowding by accommodating only those who’ve made prior reservations. You can book online.

5. Know how to get around

Armidale Airport is only a ten-minute drive from the city center. You can easily hire taxis and cars from the terminal.

If you’re planning to see the best of the city centre, we recommend walking. There are tons of beautiful places to discover by foot. You can also hire Armidale Radio Taxis and Edwards Coaches when exploring the centre and the wider New England region.
